INTRODUCING THE INDE COMMITMENT: OUR COMMITMENT TO OUR PEOPLE, OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR NATURAL WORLD

At the heart of Inde is our drive to create outcomes that last. Whether that is through technology solutions that positively impact our customers’ customers and their communities, fostering a deliberate development focus and opportunities for our people, or maintaining our employee-owned structure that ensures Inde will outlast us all, Inde was created to make a difference.

This desire to leave people better off than before they met us is what led us to create the Inde Commitment; our commitment to Our People, Our Community and Our Natural World. The Inde Commitment was created by our people collectively, ensuring that it is about more than just meeting our social, environmental and governance responsibilities. Just like our values, it needed to be about more than just a promise on our website. It had to reflect what truly drives us - something that we were all keen to commit our time and money to and something that would impact how we did business on a day-to-day basis. The Inde Commitment was created by our people to reflect the heart of our people and to make a difference in true Inde style.

Partnerships, Te Tiriti, and Outcomes

How we do The Inde Commitment initiatives is as important to us as what we do. When we work with our customers, we do exactly that, we work with them. We partner with them - we don’t do things to them. We are not the experts of their business - only they know what is important to them. We simply partner with our customers to help them achieve it.

The Inde Commitment initiatives were created in the same way. One of our objectives under our commitment to our community is to improve access to tech careers for underrepresented groups. As well as the work we have done with Women in Tech, we also have a key focus on neurodivergent individuals. As a founding partner with Unlock Innovation, the work we have helped them do to break down barriers for dyslexic thinkers has been led and contributed to by our own dyslexic team members as well as those from other organisations. By partnering with our dyslexic thinkers, we can ensure we are making a genuine difference, and by partnering with other experts in this area, we can move much faster - not having to start from scratch. It is our partnership approach that has seen us succeed in business, and it is our partnership approach that is seeing our work resonate through The Inde Commitment.

We were determined to weave the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi throughout the foundation of The Inde Commitment. We do not want it to be one thing we focus on, but a lens through which we do all our Inde Commitment initiatives. We believe it is about taking our people on the journey, helping them to appreciate Te reo and Te ao Māori for the value that it offers us all. One of our partnerships this year has been with Flipside Consulting. They have helped us to walk the journey together, understanding our own biases and privilege and giving us the tools to be more inclusive and understanding.

The third principle of The Inde Commitment is also one of our values and part of both our vision and purpose. Through everything we do, we are outcome-focused. We strive for impactful solutions tailored to real-world problems. It is not about ticks for the sake of it or looking good or offering cookie-cutter solutions. It is about real solutions to real problems. Change starts with education, where we’re open to new perspectives and being challenged. But true growth comes through action where we learn through doing and being involved. From providing practical, hands-on tech experiences to young students, to continually upskilling our team, we’re on a mission to continue to drive the tech sector and opportunities within it forward through as many diverse backgrounds as possible, across all communities.

Below are just a few highlights of some of the initiatives that display our outcome-focused approach. Working with our team, our customers and our communities to help support ‘Our People, Our Communities, and Our Natural World:'

  • Security training for charities: During National Volunteer Week, Inde supported Volunteer Canterbury with a free event for NFP governance teams, sharing expertise in IT and banking security. Supported by industry partners, the Inde team shared and highlighted important insights to help NFPs on their journey to a more secure future.

  • Inspiring young women in tech: Inde supported and participated in TechWomen's ShadowTech initiative that connects students with tech companies to give a taste as to what life is like in the tech sector. Inde hosted five students from Rangi Ruru Girls' School for a day of hands-on tech experience, where they heard inspirational stories from our own women in tech leaders and designed an AI-driven chatbot, whilst fully embracing our Inde culture in hotly contested games like foosball and pool! We’re excited to see the future paths of these aspiring tech leaders!

  • Supporting our local charities in meaningful relationships: From food bank drives to sausage sizzles and home-cooked meals, our teams love to get involved in supporting our wider communities. We recently had great success in our food bank drive for Women’s Refuge and Christchurch City Mission, supported in providing and doing the sausage sizzle at Canterbury Pride Week on behalf of Christchurch Heroes Sporting Trust, and soon we will be cooking up a storm providing home-cooked meals for Ronald McDonald Houses throughout Aotearoa for their family meal night!

  • Partnership with Better Man: Having worked with Better Man recently at an Inde team event, it was apparent that Inde and Better Man values were incredibly aligned. Focusing on supporting their incredible mission to raise awareness and enhance men’s wellbeing and mental health, we recently partnered with them to provide technological support, helping to further their goal of helping men become the best version of themselves.

Shaping a better future together

Launching The Inde Commitment and sharing our journey is not just about transparency—it’s about inviting collaboration and fostering innovation. As our customers and vendors we would love to partner with you to have an even greater impact. If you also believe in making a real difference through partnerships then we would love for you to get in touch.

We’re motivated by a vision where success is measured by more than just business achievements—it’s also about the positive impact we have on our world. Together, we're not just solving technical challenges; we're helping shape a better future.
